What makes a good health & well-being book?

Whether it's a personal story, all about diet and health, a guide for self-improvement and self-development, or about mindfulness and spirituality, the key to creating an attractive and popular book in these fields is:

  • clarity: your message should be clear and well organised, which means making sure your ideas are fully developed and explored on the page, so that your reader can understand you and get the most out of your valuable offering.

  • simplicity: once they are fully developed, your ideas must be communicated in the simplest, clearest language possible. This is an essential element to all good writing that is often overlooked: if your book is written in language that is unnecessarily complicated or confusing, then readers will not recommend it to their friends and networks.

  • friendly, relatable language: a common mistake first-time well-being authors make is to use language like 'you must' or 'do this'. Friendly, invitational language is the name of the game. Using colloquial, relatable language (including humour) is also a good way to talk to your reader like a friend.

  • layout: different text styles, info boxes, a repeating chapter format - these are all ways of making and attractive, user-friendly book the reader will want to pick up again and again.

  • practical advice & exercises: readers like to get involved - tips, tricks, and guided exercises make a book fun and informative in ways abstract information does not. Empowering your audience by giving them activities they can try themselves is a real winner. The more you invite your reader to participate and explore for themselves, the more popular your book will be.

I have helped dozens of authors develop their books into best sellers in the well-being field.

From rough draft to finished product, I can guide you through every step towards creating a professional, attractive and valuable book that will help everyone who picks it up.
